Characteristics of traffic accidents on highway and expressway

Based on the statistics of highway traffic accidents and the serious highway traffic safety situation, applying the method of theory analysis and statistics, this paper analyzes the influence of GDP, traffic volume and highway mileage on the traffic accidents in different areas from the macroscopic aspect, emphatically analyzes the expressway traffic accidents, points out that the expressway traffic accidents have some basic characteristics, such as the high rate of fatal traffic accidents and tail collisions, it is influenced by weather seriously. The main causes of traffic accidents are driver and motor vehicle factors. The conclusions can provide the countermeasures to highway traffic accidents.
