Calculation of settlement considering lateral deformation due to pumping of phreatic aquifer

In view of the risks to the surrounding environment caused by the dewatering engineering,the effect of the group wells was ignored,and the equation of the water-table depression was solved based on the supposition of Dupuit presupposition. Additional stress due to dewatering in the horizontal component was considered,and then the settlements of the soil layers above and below the cone of water-table depression were calculated respectively based on the layer-wise summation method,thus the actual settlement was the sum of them. Comparison of numerical calculation results with monitoring data of the engineering examples show that the improved calculation method is more accurate than normative method,which can bring the accurate predict results of settlement with different drawdown and distance due to dewatering engineering. © 2016, Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
