Study of plastic shrinkage cracking in concrete, and the influence of fibers and a shrinkage reducing admixture

Plastic shrinkage craking has been studied in fresh concrete using restrained prisms and panels subjected to a 40 km/hr wind at 40°C. The reduction of the central section of the prism using a stress-riser localizes the cracking, permitting the measurement of the displacement and crack width. Test results demonstrate that the incorporation of steel and plastic fibers, and a glycol-based shrinkage reducing admixture leads to the reduction of the potential for cracking in the plastic state.
