Refractory consumption in iranian steel and cement industries

Growing industrial needs in Iran in the last five years have resulted in more demands for steel and cement. The vital role of refractory materials in these industries are beyond doubt. Nevertheless, there have been few publications on the latest developments in the Iranian refractory industry in the international literature. This paper gives an overview of the Iranian refractory industry, thereby concentrating on refractory consumption in steel and cement plants. A brief review of research and education is also presented at the end of the article. This report draws on data originally prepared by the Ministry of Mines and Metals as well as the Iranian steel company (NISCO) which have, where required, been modified by consulting the plant's statistics.
