This paper is part of a series of reports from the Forest, Wood and Paper Industry Technology Summit held in May 2001. It considers the potential of fiber engineering in the paper making process, the different methods of engineering pulp fibers (genetic modification, chemical or enzymatic modification or mechanical modification) and proposed and future research directions.
