Field test of thermal recovery is carried out in offshore heavy oil field. A choice in water resource is of great importance to the stable operation of thermal fluid generator. Poor quality of the water will cause scale formation in the generator and impact thermal recovery effect. Water resources of offshore heavy oil field include fresh water, sea water, production water in oil field and underground hot water. In this paper, a comparison of these water resources is carried out. Costs of sea water and underground hot water are estimated, and application conditions are analyzed. © 2015, Editorial Office of Ship Building of China. All right reserved.
