Mining equipment continues to increase in size, complexity and cost. Accompanying this is a more competitive world market that requires companies to be more competitive and cost conscious. One area ripe for significant cost reduction is the maintenance for surface mining equipment. This paper discusses the available data sources and technique to measure and improve maintenance in surface mines. The analysis techniques are illustrated using data from several operating mines in Canada.
