The merger of Norske Skog Canada (NSCL) and Pacifica Papers was completed on 27 Aug, 2001 after the final approval granted by the regulatory authorities. The company would operate as NorskeCanada with Norske Skog's stake in the combined entity reducing from 50.8% to 36%. The president and CEO of NorskeCanada said that the combined companies could potentially capture synergies of $60 million/yr.
