As a strategic resource of global navigation satellite technology independently controlled by China, the Beidou satellite navigation system plays an important role in promoting the technical upgrade and update iteration of key technologies related to railway transport train operation control in China. It also plays a key supporting role in enhancing the global competitiveness of China’ s high-speed rail technology. In order to promote and deepen the technical transformation and application of Beidou satellite navigation technology in the specific field of China’ s railway transportation, the technical advantages of GNSS applied to railway transportation were presented. The application necessity and safety of Beidou satellite navigation technology in the operation control of railway trains in China was first described. The safety application and non-safety application requirements of railway location-related services based on the Beidou satellite navigation system were summarized for train positioning, one of the core safety applications of railway location services. The principle of train combined positioning based on Beidou satellite navigation was given. The Beidou-based multi-sensor combined train positioning technology and information fusion algorithm, multi-mode satellite train positioning technology, Beidou differential train positioning technology, and Beidou-based train combined positioning system safety and integrity monitoring technology, the Beidou satellite navigation system in train positioning were reviewed along with their applications in such fields. Finally, from the integration of the Beidou navigation with general positioning performance index standards and the railway train operation control safety related standards, the Beidou-based tightly coupled structure of multi-sensor train positioning technology, the development and design of the Beidou terminals dedicated for train operation control, and the railway Beidou dedicated test platforms and evaluation systems, the prospects of future technology development trend and challenges were discussed. It provides a certain reference value for the application research and achievement transformation of Beidou satellite navigation technology in train positioning. © 2022, Central South University Press.
