The installation of a gantry-type CNC milling machine, SNX, by Balfour Beatty Rail Track Systems (BBRTS), manufacturer and supplier of high-performance, large scale track components, is discussed. SNX is a particular type of switch technology which directs trains from one railway line to another. The key active SNX component is a monobloc vee which is the part that directs trains off one track and then onto a second. The machined element in SNX are flash butt-welded two rails that produce a completed swinging element. BBRTS has achieved a step-change in large scale railway component machining with the installation of SNX.
