Additive manufacturing are on the cusp of a key technology for increasing varied, individualized products available on short call. This article presents a method for the integration of additive manufacturing in the product engineering. The core is a consistent technology capability and empowerment of the development through technology knowledge, influencing factors of additive manufacturing, generic process components and evaluation and selection of manufacturing technologies. © 2016 Carl Hanser Verlag, München.
