Hans Koening-Bastiaan, associate director of automation at Genentech's Vacaville, CA, facility, is 2000 CONTROL Engineer of the Year. Born in The Netherlands and educated in electrical engineering technology at the technical school in Deventer, Koening-Bastiaan earned his Electrical Degree at Technical College, Enschende, in 1968. Koening-Bastiaan's involvements with Vacaville include directing the successful development and implementation of batch control systems, a 6,000-point DCS to control the process, and a 2,000-point building automation system.
