When transform a picture to wide-gamut displays form standard gamut to display, gamut extension algorithm is applied to keep hue unaltered and exert a good performance. However, human skin color is special. If extended, it would look unnatural, thus, we propose an improved skin-color-preserving algorithm here. Firstly, we determine a skin color model that compared with many existed ones, and it has the best performance. Then, according to our previous work, a new algorithm that we use a different method to avoid the skin color distortion presents; we call it skin color region protection. Compared with last paper, we do not apply coefficient changing smoothly with the angle, which makes the extension easier to implement. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed algorithm successfully protect skin color and do make improvement over the other ones. © 2014 Binary Information Press.
