Producers push up pulp prices in Europe

Pulp manufacturers has raised their pulp prices in Europe in April, 2008. Long fiber pulp producers were looking to push up their price $40 /tonne in April, 2008. The northern bleached softwood kraft (NBSK) pulp has been increased up to $900-920/tonne and southern pine to $860-890/ tonne. Manufacturers increases the prices to strength the euro against the dollar. NBSK spot prices remain steady at $750-770/tonne in Europe. Manufacturers also increased up their short fiber pulp prices by $40/ tonne in April, 2008. Most pulp suppliers are hopeful that they will manage to implement the full increases despite strong resistance from buyers. Many suppliers had already invoiced customers with the full $40/tonne. Northern and southern mixed hardwood kraft pulp has been increased to $830/tonne and $820/tonne.
