Graffiti - a challenge to the coatings industry

Graffiti represent a challenge to the coatings industry. Special requirements concerning graffiti resistance and removability of graffiti are made on coatings systems for the rail vehicle industry. Rail vehicles are a favorite object to settle graffiti. At the time when the rail vehicle industry and the preserver of the rail vehicles had to face the graffiti problems, a change over of the coating systems from solvent-based to water-thinnable had to occur, too. In addition to this change and the resulting problems, methods had to be found to test antigraffiti coatings practically. Test results had to be converted then into the development of these coating systems. This lecture will report on requirements, analysis and test methods, coating systems and know-how on antigraffiti coatings for the rail vehicle industry.
