摘要
The design of large, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS)-based photonic switches is discussed. Large photonic switches can be built with a 3D topology and bulk-silicon MEMS structures. The photonic switch routes the traffic through the network, which includes optical amplifiers (OA) and other photonic switches. Automated optical characterization equipment is necessary for large photonic switches, because a 256-port photonic switch has >65,000 possible connections.
