Nitrogen and phosphorus pollution is a serious threat to the safety of drinking water in Chaihe reservoir. Basing on data of previous years, the water quality in Chaihe reservoir was analyzed, by water quality analysis, Shannon-weaver biological assessment and eutrophication assessment. The results showed that the water quality was serious, especially nitrogen and phosphorus. The one pollution source is non-point source from the agricultural fertilizers, livestock and rural living pollution, the other is point source from mine reclamation. In order to minify the nitrogen and phosphorus pollution, some countermeasures were proposed, such as management system remedy, agricultural fertilizers control, the treatment system for living pollution construction, mineral development standardize, water conservation strengthen, biological purification etc.
