Effect of inlet distortion on the stability of a transonic compressor with casing treatment

Numerical simulation of the Rotor 37 flow field under the total pressure distortion inlet condition was emphasized by resolving three-dimensional Navier-Stokes functions in this paper. Three different cases were considered under the clean inlet condition and the low total pressure distortion inlet condition: no casing treatment, screwed slots casing treatment and slots with cell casing treatment. The rotor characteristics in the clean inlet flow and the total pressure distortion inlet flow were achieved. Mechanism of slot casing treatment improving the rotor stability was discussed. Detail analyses came to some preliminary conclusions: mass flowrate, efficiency and stall margin decrease in distortion inlet conditions. Both styles of the casing treatments can increase the rotor stall margin in clean inlet conditions. The effect of the slot with cell casing treatment enhancing the rotor stall margin weakens and the stall margin of the rotor with slot casing treatment drops when in total pressure distortion inlet conditions.
