摘要
Keith Manston explains how Siemens undertook the lengthy process of developing their own detector as there was not a satisfactorily performing above ground SCOOT detector on the market. The issue is not the performance of the loop but the fact that some authorities have estimated that at any one time up to 25% could be damaged and out of action. Traficon's video detector has just been trialed by TRL and declared suitable for use with SCOOT and MOVA. Both SCOOT and MOVA allow some flexibility in the positioning of loops so this is not such a large disadvantage as it might first appear. There is an idea around that floating car data might be the answer, using transmissions from mobile phones or from vehicles themselves but it will be at least five to ten years before such systems could be widely deployed.
