Effect of HfO2 doping on microstructure and properties of W-20Cu composites prepared by wet chemical method

W-20Cu composite powder was prepared by wet chemistry method, the spherical shell precursor was obtained by spray drying method, and then the second phase particles of HfO2 were successfully introduced into W-20Cu composite powder by hydrogen reduction, and the existence form and distribution status of the introduced HfO2 in W-Cu composite powder were determined. W-20Cu composite with uniform distribution of fine HfO2 particles was prepared by high temperature liquid-phase sintering. The results show that, due to the dispersed distribution of HfO2 particles in the W particle surface and the W/Cu interface gap, the coarsening of W particles during sintering is inhibited, thus reducing the W-W connectivity, making the W-20Cu-HfO2 composite show high comprehensive performance. Among them, when the sintering temperature is 1350 ℃, the high density is about 97%, and the composite material obtained with 0.5%HfO2 has the best comprehensive performance, the maximum hardness can reach 338HV, the bending strength is 826 MPa, and the thermal conductivity is 209W/(m·K). © 2024 Central South University of Technology.
