The petroleum industry has experienced a remarkable progress during the early 20th century; where long periods of innovation has been used to advance technological innovation; which in turn is triggered by the growing industry needs. As such; a very foundation has been established to meet the needs of the industry. This mainly involved primarily the drilling of rather shallow wells that had a short payout; with the primary surface processing being the separation of the oil from the water; solids and gas. Another feature of the first half of the 20th century is advances in logging; which became a more quantitative tool with the introduction of microlog; laterolog and microlaterolog; which enabled improvements in the determination of reservoir characteristics. In the field of communications; it involved primarily in developing new technology and those who were practicing it in operations. Another development is the fact that overseas exploration and exploitation started to become a significant factor for large reserves that could be produced at low cost;
