Susilo orders push on regional-level intelligence agency

Indonesian President has ordered that efforts be stepped up to establish an intelligence co-ordination agency at the regional level amid concerns in some sectors that the initiative may be open to political abuse. He announced the contentious plan in June 2005 at a meeting of provincial governors. The agency would be initially be known as the Badan Koordinasi Intelijen Daerah eventually being renamed as the Komunitas Intelijen Daerah. The Departmen Dalam Negaeri oversees the offices and the president's order may be aimed at institutionalizing the system.
