Surprise as US dollar weakens and euro strengthens

The weakning of US$ and strengthening of the euro was reported in the first half of August. A fall in sterling was also reported in early August but improved by mid-month. Its trade-weighted index had fallen to 104.2 at mid-August compared with 106.6 a month earlier and 107.8 a year ago.
