摘要
A historical overview on technical textile market and technologies in Japan is presented. Market and production statistics are supplied. Trends in technologies and business examine high performance fibres, many of which are identified. Functional fibres utilise separation for a variety of applications. Three types of optical fibre are discussed and other fibres briefly listed. Trends in technical textiles end-uses are covered with sub-sections on Buildtech, Geotech, Indutech, Medtech, Mobiltech, Oecotech, Protech and Sporttech. Other prominent technologies are explored with fadeless bright coloured fibre due to light interference developed by Teijin. Kuraray's commercial production of new PVA staple fibre - Kuralon K-II - in 1998 is covered. PBO fibre, Zylon, from Toyobo is discussed with end uses and a virus filter, Planova, developed by Asahi Kasei Corporation, is described. Future prospects are summarised with focus on successive development of advanced materials and systems, and more intensive development of technologies related to environmental problems, safety and ageing.
