Preparation of Microfiber Synthetic Leather Base by Using Colored Waterborne Polyurethane

To solve the existing problems in dyeing microfiber-polyurethane synthetic leather (MPSL), a novel colored waterborne polyurethane (CWPU) was used as an immersing matrix of microfiber non-wovens to prepare the MPSL base. The factors affecting the color difference(DE*) values of bases, such as the concentration of acetic acid solution (as a coagulator of CWPU), the dosage of CWPU and so on were investigated in detail. It was found that the DE* values of bases increased with increasing the concentration of acetic acid solution and the dosage of CWPU. Colorful and leveling dyed bases were obtained when the concentration of acetic acid was 0.2 mol/L and the dosage of CWPU was 30% on the basis of the mass of microfiber nonwovens. Moreover, the bases exhibited the smallest color differences (ΔE) between the obverse and reverse surface when the weightloss ratios of microfiber nonwovens were 6%~12%. The color fastness test results indicated that the prepared bases had good washing color fastness by water, while the washing color fastness by soap solution increased with the increase of drying temperature. © 2017, Editorial Office of FINE CHEMICALS.
