One of the advantages of computer-to-plate (CTP) systems using infrared (IR) lasers is the possibility of treating the plates with daylight. However, that advantage is offset by high radiation energy consumption, which can be 5000-10000 times higher than in irradiating the plates by violet lasers. Moreover, the beam dwelling time is much longer with thermal plates than with violet CTP systems. Many experts estimate that difference as 30% but in practical production it can reach more than 50%.
