摘要
How to deal with DC link fault has been a technical problem for the voltage source converter based HVDC. Several kinds of improved sub-module topologies were summarized firstly in this paper based on modular multilevel converter (MMC) DC fault suppressing mechanism. An improved sub-module and a hybrid sub-module with reverse-blocking half-bridge topologies were designed to solve the additional power consumption problem. Then according to the circuit voltage equation, the DC fault suppressing characteristics and sub-module capacitor voltage balancing problem were analyzed. What's more, a self-startup method was also designed. Lastly, the simulation model built in PSCAD/EMTDC has verified the self-startup process and DC link fault suppressing features. © 2017, The editorial office of Transaction of China Electrotechnical Society.
