摘要：
Balsa wood core materials, which are used in the composite industry, were investigated. Shear tests were performed on the wood and the effect of variation of thickness on the shear strength was analyzed. Two techniques, ASTM C-273 and ASTM C393, were employed to test the shear values of the wood. Balsa core sheets used for the testing of shear values were de-rated according to the thickness. Timber density variation along with the individual timber growth ring density were also evaluated.
