摘要：
This paper presents the state of the art and some mathematical problems arising in the theory of plates and shells. Here, the principal directions of theoretical investigations in this area are discussed. The overview of existing mathematical results in the linear and nonlinear theory of plates and shells is given, and also some open problems and unsolved problems of this theory are formulated.
