Reviews on current situation and development of straddle-type monorail tour transit system in China

In recent years, a new form of straddle-type monorail tour transit system(MTTS) has been developed rapidly. MTTS has the advantages of strong terrain adaptability, environmental friendliness, construction simplicity, and low cost. MTTS is especially suitable for tourist sightseeing and traffic within or among scenic spots. MTTS is a beneficial complement to the conventional transportation system. In this paper, the structural characteristics of the system, series of vehicles and typical engineering application cases are described, and the development process of MTTS from foreign introduction to independent research and development in China was combed. The research status of track beam dynamic characteristics, irregularity of steel track beam, ride steadiness and ride comfort were systematically sorted out, and the special support and portable bridge-craft of track beam developed for the system were introduced. The deficiency of the existing researches on straddle-type monorail tour transit system, especially in fields of the seismic performance, the temperature effort of the track beam, and characteristics of track beam irregularity was introduced. Besides, the design parameters of MTTS also need to be deepened. The current situation of the lack of administration system, design criterion and construction codes were expounded in the process of construction. Finally, the topics that should be further studied were discussed, and the future development direction of diversification, assembly, and specialization were pointed out, which has certain reference for the application and development of straddle-type monorail touri transit system in China. © 2021, Central South University Press.
