The UK will only be in a position to ban new petrol cars by 2035 if the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles is fit for purpose. IN FEBRUARY, before the coronavirus pandemic reached the UK, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps announced his intention to bring forward the ban on sales of new petrol, diesel and hybrid cars and vans from 2040, as previously announced, to 2032, in a bid to meet the UK’s carbon reduction targets.
