摘要
A macroscopic numerical simulation was used for fabrics treated with a multi-phase shear thickening fluid (STF) using the constitutive model developed for a fabric in the soft-wall containment area. Based on the results of quasi-static and dynamic testing, the dynamic constitutive model of multi-phase STF-treated Kevlar fabric was fitted and verified. A numerical simulation was carried out for a single-layer STF-treated fabric. The results were compared with ballistic impact testing results. There was good agreement for the residual velocity and energy absorbed. The deformation modes of the fabric were consistent with the impact test, being in the form of a conical deformation zone. The ballistic limit of the fabric after being treated with a multi-phase STF obviously increased, and the interaction force and energy absorption for the multi-phase STF-treated fabric were higher than those of neat fabric, indicating that the multi-phase STF can obviously enhance the impact resistance of the fabric. The dynamic response of multilayer STF-treated fabric was also investigated. As the number of layers increased, the impact force gradually increased whereas the enhancement of the energy absorption of the Kevlar fabric due to the STF reduced. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd
