Shenhua coal is abundant with the features of low contents of ash and sulfur, high-middle calorific value, easy burning, etc. and the problems of low ash fusion point, easy coking, explosion, etc. The technologies and innovative practices of safe combustion and clean utilization of Shenhua coal were summarized from the dimensions of safety and cleanliness. The combustion, slagging and blending characteristics of Shenhua coal were analyzed, the slagging control technologies, combustion system design and key operation technologies were discussed for large capacity boiler, and the furnace design and selection guidelines of large pulverized boilers for Shenhua coal were proposed, which realized the model standardization of Shenhua coal. The enterprise standard of near-zero emission that reaches the emission limits of natural gas turbine for clean coal power was proposed and the core technologies for de-dusting, desulfurization, denitration and demercuration were developed, which were firstly applied and promoted in Shenhua coal-fired boiler. Through the experimental study in the 50 000 m3/h pilot platform for the whole process control of coal-fired flue gas pollutants, the new technologies such as denitration at wide temperature window, wet electromechanical coupling dust removal were developed, and the emission characteristics of dust, SOx, NOx and Hg as well as the coordinated control law of multiple pollutants were obtained. Through the demonstration application in coal-fired boiler, the emission concentrations of dust, SOx, NOx and Hg lower than 1, 10, 20, 0.003 mg/m3 respectively were achieved. The new 1123 emission limits were explored and proposed, and the reduction effect of coal-fired flue gas pollutants was analyzed. In the future, the technical research, development and application of new generation of high-efficient power generation technology, integrated removal of multiple flue gas pollutants and resource recycling, deep removal of unconventional pollutants, CO2 near-zero emission, etc. will be continuously carried out. © 2020, Editorial Office of Journal of China Coal Society.
