In order to evaluate the aerodynamic stability of a turbo-shaft engine, using the bench ’induce-surge’testing method, the total pressure distortion flow field of the engine inlet was produced through flat distortion generator, and the comprehensive distortion index of a turbo-shaft engine was calculated. The test showed that by applying the advanced design of the compressor rotor, the critical comprehensive distortion index increased significantly at medium and high speed. Moreover, the increase was from 5.01% to 33.74% with the rising of the speed. In the acceleration process, the critical distortion index has increased by 68.32% compared with the prototype. In addition, the health conditions of engine under the inlet distortion was evaluated by analyzing the performance-worse of the engine at different flat heights. © 2019, Editorial Department of Journal of Propulsion Technology.
