Application of low-consumption resource-recovery process for rural domestic sewage treatment

Based on the technical requirements of rural domestic sewage treatment, source separation (grey and black water separation) pretreatment and collection(SSPC) mode was proposed. The biological and ecological coupled treatment based on the mode was designed and built up for the treatment process of anaerobic filter(AF), anoxic filter(ANF), waterwheel driving rotating biological contactors(WDRBC), and vegetable constructed wetland(VCW). The monitored results show that the SSPC mode can effectively reduce the pollutant load towards the terminal biological and ecological coupled treatment facilities, thus reducing the construction and operation costs. The pollutant reduction distribution demonstrates that the removal rate of chemical oxygen demand(COD) in the biological treatment section reaches 73%, and that of total phosphorus(TP) in the ecological treatment section reaches 70%, and the total nitrogen(TN) concentration in the effluent decreases to 13.9 mg/L. The effluent quality stably meets the local discharge standards. Meanwhile, the onsite nutrient recovery by the vegetable planting is realized. The process achieves the goal that organic matter is removed in biological unit and nutrients are recovered in the ecological unit. The application provides a demonstration of a grey and black water separation mode and a low-consumption and resource-recovery treatment process for the rural domestic sewage management. © 2020, Editorial Department of Journal of Southeast University.
