摘要
Recently, Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology has attracted much attention in different countries globally. Many countries actively promote its applications in public construction projects. For clients in public construction projects, selecting appropriate BIM uses is the prerequisite for successful BIM implementation. There are many BIM uses for consideration when a client wants to adopt BIM technology. However, many clients adopt BIM technology blindly because of lacking a systematic selection mechanism. Inappropriate BIM uses usually result in limited BIM benefits. To solve the problem, this study develops a selection model to assist in selecting appropriate BIM uses for public construction projects. The model mainly consists of determining the implementation stage in a project's life cycle, determining the objectives of BIM implementation and selecting project deliverables. Through the validation of domain experts' survey and case examination, the developed BIM uses selection model is helpful for the client who is immature in BIM application. © 2019, Chinese Institute of Civil and Hydraulic Engineering.
