Modelling and Optimization of Hybrid Renewable Energy System for Remote Area Electrification

In this study, we propose a modelling and optimization framework for design of off-grid hybrid renewable energy system, featuring unique characteristics of energy supply and demand sizes and patterns of remote rural areas and solar, wind and biomass as primary energy sources. General modelling method and techno-economic analysis framework of off-grid hybrid renewable energy system are established. We then illustrate the capability of the proposed framework and model via a case study of a village in West China. Results show that a hybrid renewable energy system comprising solar, wind and biomass energy is a cost-effective option compared with grid extension whilst achieving environmental benefits. © 2021, Science Press.
