The current seismic design method based on load bearing capacity lacks an accurate reflection of the cross-sectional performance of members, and the performance requirements of important lateral force resisting members such as shear walls under seismic action are not reflected. The vertical corrugated steel plate composite shear walls exhibit good seismic performance due to the excellent geometric advantages of the embedded corrugated steel plate, and the analysis of their cross-sectional performance is yet to be investigated. Based on the combined mechanism and damage phenomena of the vertical corrugated steel plate composite shear walls, the theoretical calculation method of section curvature and the calculation procedure of converting the load displacement curve into bending moment curvature curve are presented in this study. The accuracy of the theoretical calculation method and the applicability of the numerical calculation model are verified by experimental data. Expanded research is also performed on the influence of corrugated steel plates, of boundary elements, of distributed steel bars, and of material properties such as concrete strength and steel strength on section curvature and curvature ductility under different axial pressures. The correlation analysis found that the boundary element is the only parameter that maintains a positive correlation with the curvature of the characteristic point and the curvature ductility. The proposed simplified calculation formulas for the section yield, peak, ultimate curvature of the vertical corrugated steel plate composite shear walls have been proved accurate and applicability, which can provide some kind of theoretical support to calculate the elastoplastic deformation capacity and its damage control. © 2023 Tsinghua University.
