In this work, compound C1 was designed and synthesized as a dual-functional sensor for Hg2+ and S2-. In compound C1, the carbamodithioate unit had an exceptionally strong affinity towards Hg2+ and then formed the C1-Hg(Ⅱ) complex, which would induce the changes on intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) efficiency and the concomitant UV-vis spectra. Furthermore, the C1-Hg(Ⅱ) complex could serve as an indirect sensor towards sulfide anion. Upon the addition of S2-, the absorption spectra of C1-Hg(Ⅱ) complex shifted by ~135 nm with the color changing from light yellow to deep red. The detection limit was determined to be as low as 1.5×10-6 mol/L and the mixture system displayed high selectivity to S2- over other anions. © 2020, Materials Review Magazine. All right reserved.
