Safe System: a new approach with the user as main character

Advanced societies demand to their managers the adoption of efficient public policies to improve road safety, as it is no longer acceptable that people are killed or seriously injured as a result of accidents. This mandate is included in the Spanish Road Safety Strategy 2021-2030 and assumes the application of the Safe System approach. In this article, we develop the main lines of the Safe System approach defined in the Spanish Strategy, with special attention to human factor and infrastructure within the system, while also describing some actions and solutions applied in Spain or other countries. © 2021 Asociacion Espanola de la Carretera.
