In view of the demand for large-scale power grid simulation ability in the southern Suzhou 500kV UPFC project, the electromagnetic transient modeling for unified power flow controller (UPFC) based on modularized multilevel converter (MMC) technology is carried out. The adaptability of the hybrid simulation interface position to different working conditions is explored with the IEEE39 node example, Finally, an example of Suzhou 500 kV UPFC project is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed model and the hybrid interface. © 2019, Power System Technology Press.
