Improving the Anticorrosion and Self-Healing Properties of the Epoxy Coating Using the Mn-Zn2SiO4/PDA Composite

摘要
Zinc silicate (Zn2SiO4) is often used as an epoxy resin filler but is prone to damage over time, which limits its applicability. Herein, mussel-inspired polydopamine (PDA) was utilized for the capabilities of adhesion and self-healing, and Mn was doped, successfully prepared the Mn-Zn2SiO4/PDA composite, and incorporated as a filler in epoxy resin to form composite coatings. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy testing demonstrated that after 168 h of saltwater immersion experiment, the total impedance value of the Mn-Zn2SiO4/PDA composite coating is 723.1% of that of the blank epoxy resin coating, improving the corrosion resistance of epoxy resin. Additionally, the anticorrosion mechanisms of the Mn-Zn2SiO4/PDA composite were attributed to the self-healing properties effect, shielding effect, and multivalent Mn ions magnetic induction effect. This study opens up an avenue for the development of epoxy resin composite coatings in the field of anticorrosion.
