This article presents a qualitative study on transit migration in Ecuador, addressing the complex situation of migrants who pass through the country on their way to other destinations, such as the United States. Twenty migrants were interviewed and their trajectories were reconstructed, and information was collected from various sources, including interviews, participant observation, and review of press coverage. The main findings reveal that Ecuador has become a transit country for Ecuadorian migrants and deportees, with smuggling networks operating unchecked. The presence of irregular migrants from various countries, such as China, Bangladesh, Cuba, India, and Pakistan, who travel from Ecuador to other destinations was identified. Migrants face discrimination, language barriers, and difficulties in finding formal employment, and many undertake dangerous journeys to the United States with the help of communication via WhatsApp or Facebook. In addition, it is highlighted that migration policies and international pressures, especially from the United States, have influenced the situation of migrants in transit through Ecuador. The study provides a detailed overview of the complex reality of transit migration in Ecuador and its implications.
