摘要：

Despite a decline in the number of cases, pulmonary embolism is still a common cause of death, particularly in older people. The current guidelines focus on rapid risk assessment when pulmonary embolism is suspected and appropriate treatment. The assessment of which patients are suitable for outpatient treatment and the appropriate follow-up strategy are discussed below.
