Trouble on the beaches

Sandy beaches may appear as a natural environment to the many millions spending their summer holidays on them, but they often have to be maintained and replenished. Unsustainable methods of coastal management and sand mining add to the collateral damage caused by mass tourism. Michael Gross reports.
