This essay aims to trace the history of the social-revolutionary and Islamist group of the Anti-Imperialist Cells (AIZ), which emerged at the beginning of 1990s in Germany. In the first instance, we are going to situate historically the emergence of a new wave of political violence by analysing the interaction of the Red Army Faction (RAF) with the West German state. In the second part of the essay, we focus on analysing properly the emergence of the AIZ, their ties with the RAF and why they had adopted the Islamism as ideological nucleus for anticipating new non-capitalist social relations.
