Environmental education for sustainability: a case study for the production of sustainable projects

摘要
: Since the establishment of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the growing need to preserve resources, the issue of environmental sustainability has gained prominence. In recent decades, environmental education has been used as a tool to ensure sustainable resource management. Despite the use of teaching methodologies that provide theoretical knowledge, there are still gaps in the practical implementation of environmental education. The aim of this article is to explain the teaching of environmental sustainability in the subject called Applied Environmental Sustainability, implemented at the Academic Campus of the Federal University of Pernambuco. In this course, enrolled students develop sustainable projects that improve environmental quality and promote the teaching of sustainable practices in partnership with municipal schools. The students are responsible for developing a sustainable project related to the management of: water, energy, waste, fauna and flora and knowledge. To carry out this scientific research, information was acquired from the 2019 to 2021 academic semesters on the sustainable projects developed. The projects put into practice showed encouraging results, demonstrating the improvement of school conditions and awakening an awareness of sustainability. Extension projects like this make it possible to think globally and act locally, and provide an ideal future for future generations.
