The century of populism: history, theory, criticism

This is a critical review of the work The century of populism: history, theory and criticism , by the French historian and political scientist Pierre Rosanvallon. Populism attracts the attention of many researchers around the world and, despite this, the understanding of the phenomenon is still far from a consensus. From this review, we seek to analyze the contribution given by Rosanvallon to the understanding of a typology of populism. In the end, it is noted that, for Rosanvallon, in addition to being a possibility within democracy itself, populism can also mean the driving force that transforms it into a dictatorship.
