Intensive Care Medicine Certificate of the German Society for Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine - an Update

The "AI Zert" certificate of the German Society for Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine (DGAI) has now been in existence for almost ten years. In the part of the hospital where quality and safety are of the greatest importance for patient care, a modular certification process aims to improve the quality of care. In order to reflect different specialisations in hospitals, hospitals of all sizes and all disciplines can have their intensive care medicine certified as a basis, regardless of whether they are involved in standard or specialist care.The additional, but not mandatory, modules below are also available:center dot Research and teaching center dot Neuro center dot Cardiovascular center dot Extracorporeal lung support (ECMO)center dot Weaning from ventilation center dot Polytrauma center dot Burns center dot Intermediate care (IMC), and center dot Transplantation.The modular structure of the certificate enables intensive care physicians and the applying institution to make their own service priorities and differentiations transparent. In addition, the review of their own process and structural characteristics allows them to optimiee their own quality on a regular basis. The entire certification process is intended not only to review all the intensive care processes addressed here, but also to serve as a foundation for change ma nagement, particularly when interdisciplinary and interprofessional interfaces are concerned. The initial situation and the further development of the certificate and, above all, the updating of the audit plan including all requirements applying to intensive care medicine, will be presented in this article.
