Stabilization of waste foundry sand with alkali-activated binder: Mechanical behavior, microstructure and leaching

摘要
This study evaluates the stabilization of waste foundry sand (WFS) using an alkali-activated binder (AAB) produced from rice husk ash, hydrated eggshell lime, and sodium hydroxide. Mechanical properties, leaching behavior, and microstructure were assessed. The material's durability was investigated, and the impact of wetting-drying cycles on mechanical strength and metal leaching was analyzed. The stabilized WFS fulfilled the requirements for unconfined compressive strength (qu) and accumulated loss of mass (ALM), making it suitable for use in pavement layers. Wetting-drying cycles did not significantly affect strength, and leached metal concentrations remained below toxic limits.
